Zvishavane town is situated in the Midlands Province of Zimbabwe along the mineral rich Great Dyke which stretches from the north-eastern side of the country, crossing the southern parts of the country down across the Limpopo River into The Republic of South Africa.Zvishavane (known until 1983 as Shabani) is a mining town lying 97 kilometres west of Masvingo, on the main Bulawayo-Masvingo road.
Other roads lead from Zvishavane to Gweru, 121 kilometres north, and Mberengwa, 27 kilometres south-west.According to the 2012 census the town’s population stands at 45 325. The town developed as a residential centre from anasbestos mine(Shabanie Mine) which started operations in 1916 but growth was slow until the railway reached the town in 1928. The town is endowed with minerals such as asbestos, platinum, gold, beryl, chromite iron ore, emeralds and diamonds.
Originally, the town operated under the auspice of Mberengwa Council, Runde Rural District council before being awarded Town Status in May 1999.Due to population growth and the coming in of new settlers into the urban settlement, the area was divided into ten wards and granted its town status on 13th May 1999 and became known as Zvishavane Town Council following a Presidential proclamation by His Excellency the President of Zimbabwe, Cde. R. G. Mugabe. From an infamous rural area, Zvishavane has grown in leaps and bounds to becoming one of the fastest growing towns in Zimbabwe.
Our Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) are not only concentrated in estate and infrastructure development but cuts across other pertinent services within our mandate. These partnerships have put Zvishavane on the map.
